Christian Eriksen transfer latest: Brentford not giving up hope as Tottenham and Manchester United circle

The Bees handed Eriksen a route back to the Premier League after he was released by Inter Milan last year, following his cardiac arrest whilst playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a superb end to the season, his arrival helping Brentford arrest a worrying slump in form to pull well clear of the relegation battle during their first Premier League campaign, but is now a free agent, having only signed a short-term contract with the west London club.

Eriksen has since been offered a longer-term contract on improved terms that would make him Brentford’s highest-paid player.

That offer remains on the table and the Dane is expected to make a decision over his future upon his return from holiday later this month.

Tottenham are understood to be interested in re-signing the playmaker, who spent six-and-a-half seasons in north London after joining from Ajax in 2013 and was part of the side that reached the Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino in 2019 before joining current Spurs boss Antonio Conte at Inter Milan.

Man United have reportedly firmed up their own interest with a formal contract offer and both they and Brentford received a boost earlier this week when Eriksen revealed that playing Champions League football was “not essential” next term.

“I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision,” he said. “I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”
